With the temperatures continuing to drop, there is no better time to protect your pipes from freezing. If you are a homeowner and haven’t already taken action to protect your pipes from freezing, now may be a good time to do so. Did you know one of the he first signs of frozen pipes is when a faucet won’t produce water?

If you happen to face the unfortunate situation of frozen pipes, there are a few things you can do to help thaw your pipes out.
  • As soon as you realize the pipe is frozen, shut off the main valve, and open the nearest faucet so when it thaws the pipes can drain.
  • Have containers and drop clothes near by in case leaks occur.
  • Apply the following techniques to warm the frozen pipes:
    • If you have a heating pad available, wrap it around the pipe to warm it up.
    • Get a heat lamp and place it 8 or more inches behind the wall, floor or ceiling to roast up the pipes
    • Last resort, wrap the pipe in rags and pour hot water on the rags.
