Happy Memorial Day! Many
friends and family members will be gathering together to honor the men and
women who have died in service today. If
you are planning on entertaining, especially if you will be cooking, there are
ways to save
energy and still have fun. Here are
a few tips on how to have an energy-efficient Memorial Day.
Memorial Day Energy
Saving Tips:
- Kitchen Oven – Keep the door to the oven closed! Every time you open the door the temperature can drop as much as 25 degrees.
- Keep Food Covered – If you are storing food in your refrigerator, make sure that it is covered. Your refrigerator’s compressor works harder to cool moist air. Keeping food covered will keep your fridge smelling fresh too!
- Clean Your Fridge – The coils on the back of your fridge should be cleaned once a year. This helps the compressor cool faster. A clean running fridge will use less energy and extend the life of your kitchen appliance.
- Dishwasher – Dishwashers almost always use less water than washing dishes by hand. Especially if you are washing several dishes. If you don’t have a dishwasher, don’t leave the water running in between washing dishes.
